Unit 27: Whose is it?
1. Whose is it?
Francis | Hello. |
Jane | Whose is this? |
Francis | I don't know. Put it back, please. |
1st Woman | May I have my coat, please? |
Francis | Which one is it, madam? |
1st Woman | That one. That one's mine. |
Jane | This one? |
1st Woman | No. That coat isn't mine. Mine is the one next to it. |
Jane | Here is your coat, madam. And is this yours? This umbrella? |
1st Woman | No, it isn't. |
Jane | Oh, dear. Whose is it? |
1st Woman | Don't worry. I think it's my husband's. John, is that your umbrella? |
1st Man | Yes, it is. |
1st Woman | It's all right. It's his. |
1st Man | Thank you very much. |
Jane | And this bag? Is this yours, or your wife's? |
1st Man | No, it isn't mine, or hers. |
Jane | Oh, dear. Whose is it? |
Francis | I don't know. Ah, that woman over there. Perhaps it's hers. |
Jane | Excuse me, madam. Is it your bag? |
2nd Woman | No, it isn't. But that's our suitcase. The brown one. And that suitcase is ours too. |
Francis | These? Are these yours? |
2nd Man | Yes. Those suitcases are ours. |
Francis | Here you are, sir. |
2nd Man | Thank you. |
Jane | There's another suitcase here. Perhaps this suitcase is theirs too. |
Francis | No, it isn't theirs. They've gone. |
2. Two rooms for two nights.
Clerk | Can I help you, sir? |
Husband | Yes, please. Two hotel rooms. Two rooms for two nights. |
Clerk | Yes, sir. Single or double? |
Wife | We want one double room and one single room for our daughter. |
Clerk | One double, one single for two nights. With shower or bath? |
Wife | We want one with a bath. |
Tracy | I'd prefer a shower. |
Clerk | Certainly. A double room with bath and a single with shower. The Grand Hotel is full, I'm afraid. There aren't any rooms at the Grand. Ah, there are some rooms at the Queen's Hotel, sir, in South Street. |
Husband | What's it like? |
Clerk | It's a big hotel near the station. |
Wife | That'll be expensive. |
Clerk | Well, madam, just a moment. There's the Palace Hotel. That's not expensive. |
Husband | What's it like? |
Clerk | It's smaller than the Queen's. It's in the same street. It's near the shops, and ... |
Husband | Is it quiet? I don't like noisy hotels. |
Clerk | Oh, its very quiet, sir. |
Wife | What are the rooms like? |
Clerk | Here you are. They are like this. This is a double room with bath and television. |
Husband | What do you think of it, dear? |
Wife | That looks all right. |
3. In the weather studio
Francis | Here's the weather forecast for the next 24 hours. In the north of Scotland there will be snow with strong winds. It will be very cold. In England and Wales the weather will be much better. There will be some fog in the morning. But the fog will clear, and in the south it'll be a fine day with some sunshine. It will be quite warm. In the west it'll be cold in the morning, but it will get warmer and perhaps there will be some sunshine later. In the east, the day will start fine, but then the weather will change. In the afternoon, there will be some rain. It will get cooler. |
